As most of us approached graduation, there was unwavering reminder that we must move forward unto the next chapter of our lives; college. A place greater than high-school. Greater responsibilities, greater opportunities, greater classes, and hopefully greater professors.
In my passion blog: Greater Expectations: A Student's Guide to First-Year College, I will be going though exactly what to expect for college. Ideally, my blogs would follow the weeks of school. However I might have to adjust that given that we're already three weeks into the school year.
Some topics I expect to talk about include clubs, football, classes, friends, tuition and financial aid, and general student life. Rather than take you through my personal college experience, I am going to try to do student interviews, polls, and quotes to make sure this blog is more generalized and relateable. I might also want to include resources and events at Penn state but I'm not sure how personalized this blog should be. I'd love feedback on whether or not to make this specific to Penn State or general enough for any college student. I'd also appreciate any other ideas about what to include or add on to this blog idea.
As part of my other blog idea, I was considering doing posts about the different Netflix series I have watched. Each post would be an evaluation of a different series. I would talk about the things I like and also dislike while also providing short clips and highlighted scenes.
It's a great excuse to watch more shows and go back to ones I really enjoy. Once I get a count of how many series I have seen the title will most likely be ___ and Counting.
Any ideas on how to make my Netflix blog any more interesting are gladly appreciated.
Now, which blog idea takes the win?

I feel like Netflix is a much more unique yet still relatable topic. The personal perspectives that you bring into this shared experience of TV shows would be able provide great insight into our views on these shows as well.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you can bring unique ideas and commentary, I would suggest the second topic. As for how to make it interesting, you could perhaps analyze how the viewing experience of Netflix enhances or detracts from the show, as compared to watching it on a traditional television channel.
ReplyDeleteThese are both very interesting topics that have potential to be very entertaining. The freshman transition is a very daunting experience for many people so for people who are younger than us, a blog of such would be very helpful and intuitive. With the Netflix blog as well, you seem to have a good idea going there but if i were to recommend anything to add to the blogs from that, I'd recommend using the shows to explain an abstract definition behind the dialogue. Rarely is any TV show purely based upon just the topic on the fore front. So with that idea in mind, it is a very difficult decision between which one of these topics you decide to choose. It more or less depends on how much digging you're willing to do to truly find out exactly what is meant by each of the shows you choose to discuss. If I personally had to choose though, I feel like a college guide may end up being more fresh and individual because anyone can search up multiple sources on just about any TV show there is, but no one can live your personal experience that you've experienced through college so far.
ReplyDeleteTalking about college life would be really helpful for me as a freshman and an International student, but I'm not sure about the others. Personally, I'd go with this idea because it will help me out a lot figuring out how to survive first year. On the second thought, Netflix could be an interesting blog. I like both ideas, but I'm not good at choosing. So I would say go with the majority. And again, I'd prefer the first one but generalising it would be a workload you.
ReplyDeleteHey Norma, I love your ideas!
ReplyDeleteIf I may, I think the second blog choice would be a smarter one - particularly for a higher view count. I say this because there are tons of College Guides out there, especially on the Facebook page. Unless you could vary the quality of your blog vastly from the rest, I think the second blog idea allows for more creativity and uniqueness. I'd personally be eager to read that.
Good luck!
